 Open Infrastructure for Responsible Knowledge

Organizations are increasingly required to make knowledge available across system and organizational boundaries—for people, applications, and AI systems.

Simply transferring documents or data is not enough. A recipient must be able to verify what version of the actual knowledge was released, who is responsible for it, whether the publication is unaltered, and whether it can be processed technically.

KAPRI creates an open conceptual and technical foundation for this.

At the center is the Knowledge Asset Package (KAP). It enables the exchange of a version of a knowledge asset as a uniquely identifiable and technically verifiable publication between independent systems.

To this end, KAPRI defines common rules for identity, versioning, package structure, integrity, digital signatures, certificate chains, optional encryption, and validation. How knowledge assets are developed and maintained within an organization remains independent of these rules.

The target extends beyond the exchange of individual Knowledge Assets: Common rules for interoperable publications lay the groundwork for Knowledge Networks—decentralized networks in which organizations can independently publish, reference, and interlink verified bodies of knowledge.

KAPRI is open and a work in progress. We invite organizations, developers, and experts to discuss the specification, test the reference implementation, and try out their own implementations.
